Corporate & Social Responsibility

As a company and as individuals, we are committed to being aware of the economic, social and environmental impact of our business activities. We are committed to our Corporate Social Responsibility programme and we understand the importance of being a useful member of our community as well as being socially responsible at work. We aim to provide a business environment in which our members of staff enjoy working and where we all work towards our business goals and support each other.  We recognise the importance of training and development to allow career progression, providing a comfortable and safe physical environment in which to work and equality of opportunity in our recruitment and employment practices.

We are proud to support a wide range of charitable organisations through donation, sponsorship, advertising and personal involvement and support from our directors. We choose to dedicate our support to a small number of local charities each year, as well as taking part in national charitable events such as Children in Need and Comic Relief.

Our CSR team is not just a handful of people: every member of our firm gets involved in the fundraising events that we hold throughout the year. Our firm also supports its employees who take part in events such as charity walks and the London Marathon.

Charitable giving

During 2017 Phillips will be supporting the Ark Cancer Centre Charity through a variety of activities and events.

Our main fundraising event of the year will be the Basingstoke Half Marathon - as headline sponsors Phillips will enter a team of 50 runners who will all being running to raise money for our chosen charities.

Community projects and our environment

In March 2011 we celebrated 25 years in business and planted 25 trees in a public recreation area as a small contribution towards protecting our natural environment and looking after our planet for the next generation. We are constantly looking at ways to lessen our impact on the environment: we have an improved recycling system; other actions include more efficient printing, recycling of waste products and an overall policy to help reduce our carbon footprint.  We also provide financial support for the Basingstoke Gang Show and the local Scout and Guide community.

We are committed to being a responsible, ethical law firm and we have a long tradition of pro bono and community activity. Pro bono is the provision of legal advice, support at events and general assistance, without charge, to members of the public. We regularly work with our local Hospice to draw up free Wills for our clients in exchange for a donation to the Hospice. Our regular pro bono work with the local Citizens Advice Bureau is another good example, where each of our solicitors will regularly spend an afternoon advising members of the public, without charge.

Just one of the visitors to the CAB writes: 'I would like to express my sincere thanks to your firm for participating in the CAB scheme and for offering free, legal advice to the community. When I visited the CAB the guidance, understanding, and concern that I received from your solicitor was invaluable.' Jenny K. Tadley.

We recognise the importance of education in our communities and we support our members of staff who choose to become governors of schools and colleges. We also give presentations at young peoples' conferences (Basingstoke Consortium educational partnership scheme); sit on the board of Relate and get involved as local councillors. We provide valuable work placement experience to students each year.
