Rob graduated from Bristol University, completing his four year degree in Law and French, one of which was spent studying at Poitiers University in France. After undertaking the legal practice course at the College of Law, Guildford and a training contract at a Legal 500 law firm in Suffolk, Rob joined the Family team at Phillips in 2007.
Rob deals with all aspects of family law and has experience resolving a wide range of matters concerning cohabitation, relationship breakdown and children. He has a particular interest and experience in dealing with more complex financial cases, typically involving family businesses, pensions, inherited assets and/or trust arrangements. Following recent legal developments, Rob has seen an increase in clients requesting cohabitation and pre-nuptial agreements.
Rob is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) which encourages the resolution of disputes in a constructive and non-confrontational manner. In line with this, Rob has trained as a collaborative lawyer and is helping to pioneer, in the Basingstoke area, this alternative way of resolving family disputes which is already popular and well-established in many other parts of the UK. Collaborative law brings separating couples together in four-way meetings with their lawyers, with the aim of reaching an amicable solution, especially in arrangements for their children and/or finances, and without the need to attend court.
Rob's competence in French and Spanish adds to the multi-lingual capabilities within the firm. He is increasingly acting for a wide range of international clients (from the Middle East and Far East in particular) and he welcomes receiving instructions from expatriates based overseas who retain links with the UK and who may be seeking to resolve their divorce in accordance with English law.
Rob is adept at tailoring his services to a client's particular needs and budget, and is able to offer 'unbundled' services, such as giving one-off advice, offering second opinions, advising on court procedures, preparing court documents, negotiation planning and strategising.
