It is Day Four of Family Mediation Week, which is being supported by Haymarket Family Mediation.
The campaign is being led by the Family Mediation Council to raise awareness of mediation and how it can help separating families manage their issues collaboratively and productively.
To find out more about the week visit www.familymediationweek.org.uk/ where you will find articles, virtual events and videos.
Among the videos is one about 14-year-old Tom, whose parents have separated and explains what help is available for young people.
In the animated video we learn that Tom was able to see his parent’s mediator so his views could be heard. He found this helpful, finding the mediator being friendly and welcoming.
Tom said he was able to tell the mediator how he was feeling and that he wanted to spend time with his mum and dad, and also with his grandparents and friends.
Together they agreed what the mediator would tell his mum and dad. The result of this was that Tom felt his parents really listened to what he wanted and agreed to a routine.

Our mediators at Haymarket Family Mediation, who are accredited members of the Family Mediation Council, are trained to help parents to make the transition from being a couple to being separated parents in the best way for their children and how to put their children at the centre of their decision making. They can also provide specific information about what support children might need when parents separate.
