NATIONAL LIVING WAGE
NATIONAL LIVING WAGE

2 April 2019

Many workers received a pay boost on April 1 with the National Living Wage being increased by almost 5%.

The National Living Wage is the amount of money most employees aged over 25 are entitled to by law.

Until 2016 it used to be known as the National Minimum Wage.

The hourly rate for adults age 25 and over went up from £7.83 to £8.21 an hour.

Still known as the National Minimum Wage, the hourly rate for 21 to 24-year-olds went from £7.38 to £7.70 an hour, and from £5.90 to £6.15 an hour for 18 to 20-year-olds.

Those under 18 receive £4.35 an hour, while the Apprentice rate is £3.90 an hour.

Anyone who thinks they are not receiving the National Living Wage or National Minimum Wage should complain to their employer in the first instance.

If you have any concerns about pay please contact Gill Brown, head of the Employment team at Phillips by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01256 854605.
